NAVI began ESL Pro League Season 24 with a 2-0 victory over G2, winning Cache 13-7 and Inferno 13-4. It was their first match win in 35 days and only their fourth of the season, making the result an important response to a difficult run of tournaments.

The victory carried immediate relevance for the PGL Major Singapore race. NAVI had fallen to 32nd in the Valve Regional Standings after early exits at EWC, BLAST Open Porto and StarSeries Fall, leaving the organization outside the projected invitation cutoff.

Cache was NAVI’s selection, but the opening was not smooth. G2 won five of the first six rounds before NAVI changed the direction of the map through coordinated trading and stronger defensive control. From that point, G2 collected only two additional rounds.

Inferno was even clearer. b1t, iM and w0nderful repeatedly stopped G2’s attacks, and the opposing T side never established a reliable sequence. huNter- finished the map 1-15 with a 0.19 rating, the second-lowest map performance of his career.

What changed in NAVI’s first win for more than a month

The result was not simply a favorable scoreline. NAVI solved two different problems during the series: they recovered from a poor start on their own pick, then controlled the opponent’s pick from the beginning. That combination suggests useful preparation rather than a match won through one hot individual performance.

Cache also supported the decision to maintain a broad map pool. Choosing a map that had required work during the break created risk, but the recovery showed that NAVI could rely on teamplay after the initial plan failed. Inferno then placed the team’s strongest performers in positions where they could deny G2 space early.

The series produced five concrete positives for NAVI:

A five-player tactical formation reverses an early one-five deficit
  • The team ended a 35-day wait for a match victory.
  • NAVI recovered after falling 1-5 behind on Cache.
  • Their defense limited G2 to four rounds on Inferno.
  • b1t, iM and w0nderful shared the impact instead of leaving one isolated carry.
  • A clean opening win added urgently needed value to the team’s EPL campaign.

The wider context prevents overreaction. One win does not erase poor results across three previous events, and NAVI still need more LAN victories to recover their VRS position. The remaining Pro League schedule will test whether the G2 performance was a reset or a short improvement.

iM said that the team was not allowing the ranking situation to create pressure, reasoning that good play would eventually generate the necessary points. That approach can protect decision-making, but it must be supported by results because the invitation cutoff is determined by standings rather than confidence.

G2 also contributed to the scale of the score. Their Inferno offense collapsed, and huNter-‘s unusually difficult map removed a major source of mid-round impact. NAVI deserve credit for applying the pressure, while recognizing that future opponents may offer stronger resistance.

Why the next EPL matches remain decisive

The best sign was NAVI’s distribution of responsibility. When multiple players control opening and middle-round exchanges, the team becomes harder to read and less vulnerable to one player’s form. Repeating that balance is more important than preserving an identical scoreline.

Pro League provides further opportunities to collect LAN wins before PGL Masters Bucharest. NAVI need to use those matches to prove their map work holds across different styles. A strong tournament would repair both ranking damage and the uncertainty created by their previous exits. It would also provide competitive repetitions on the maps adjusted during the break and reveal whether the improvements remain reliable after opponents study the G2 series.

The confirmed result and its limits can be separated clearly.

A team climbs from outside the cutoff toward a distant Major stage
Area Against G2 What comes next
Series NAVI won 2-0 Repeat the level against new opponents
Cache Recovered from 1-5 to win 13-7 Show the map is stable from the start
Inferno Dominant 13-4 defense Maintain control against stronger T sides
Recent form First win in 35 days Build a sequence rather than one result
Major race Entered EPL outside invite cutoff Convert LAN wins into VRS recovery

NAVI’s opening victory was convincing because it combined a comeback on Cache with complete control on Inferno. The performance ended a long winless period and supplied the kind of LAN result the team urgently needed.

It remains the first step of a recovery, not proof that the season’s problems are solved. NAVI must now reproduce the coordination, shared impact and map confidence through the rest of Pro League if the G2 win is to change their Singapore Major outlook.
