FOKUS have appointed Ricardo “JTR” Júnior as head coach, completing a same-day change in which Jakub “kuben” Gurczyński was moved to the bench. The organization described the switch as a decision to take the Counter-Strike team in a new direction, giving JTR immediate responsibility for an international lineup led by Erik “ztr” Gustafsson.
The appointment is more than a change of voice behind the players. JTR arrives with experience across different regions, competitive levels and coaching roles, while FOKUS are trying to turn a mixed opening to the season into a more stable run. Their next scheduled events mean the new coach will have to establish priorities without a long transition period.
kuben had been in charge for seven months. He joined when the German organization entered Counter-Strike in February with a newly assembled international roster. The project has changed since then: Georgi “Jorko” Mitev and Sebastian “volt” Maloș left during the summer, while Paavo “podi” Heiskanen and Jacob “jocab” Nerheden joined the playing group.
Results did not produce one clear direction. FOKUS placed 9th-16th at BLAST Bounty, 17th-32nd in the EWC open qualifier and 9th-12th at Stake Pulse Beat II. Those finishes help explain why the organization chose a coaching reset, but they do not reduce the task to repairing a single tournament. JTR inherits a roster that has already been rebuilt once and now needs consistent methods around its current five.
JTR brings a career built across different team environments
JTR became best known for his work with Nigma Galaxy from 2021 through 2023. Under his leadership, the team dominated the early ESL Impact circuit, winning the first two seasons as well as the Valencia and Katowice events. That period offers evidence of sustained preparation rather than success in one isolated bracket.
He then spent a year as ODDIK’s head coach and narrowly missed PGL Major Copenhagen through the Americas RMR. The move placed him in a different regional structure and required him to manage another competitive context. From 2024 through 2026, he worked as an assistant with FlyQuest, while also briefly handling head-coach duties at BLAST Open London 2025.
That sequence gives FOKUS a coach familiar with both leading a project and supporting another leader. The distinction matters because the team already has ztr directing the roster inside the server. JTR’s early challenge is therefore not to replace the captain’s authority, but to define how preparation, review and tactical development are divided between them.

- Banjo and Matheos remain part of the international playing core.
- ztr continues as the leader around whom the lineup was built.
- podi and jocab retain the places they took after the summer changes.
- JTR replaces kuben as the active head coach.
FOKUS were 55th in the global Valve Regional Standings when the change was announced. That position gives the staff a measurable competitive problem: the team needs results that improve its standing while avoiding another cycle of structural disruption. A coaching appointment can change preparation and accountability, but it cannot by itself create ranking points.
The roster also needs a style that fits its varied backgrounds. An international lineup must make its communication rules explicit, especially when a new coach introduces different review habits and terminology. JTR’s experience in head-coach and assistant roles should help him judge which ideas must be implemented immediately and which can wait until the players have built trust in the new process.
Upcoming events turn the appointment into an immediate test
FOKUS have been invited directly to the playoff stage of NODWIN Clutch Series 12. They are also signed up for ROG Journey Autumn, a $20,000 competition in Skövde, Sweden. Those commitments give the new staff two useful but different checkpoints: a playoff entry that offers little margin for a slow start and a LAN setting where preparation must survive travel and match-day pressure.
The short runway makes clear priorities essential. JTR can first stabilize the map pool, align review work with ztr and clarify how the newer players fit the team’s calling structure. Broad reinvention would be difficult before competition, whereas a limited set of repeatable improvements can be tested quickly and expanded later.
The change should not be judged solely by the first result. FOKUS cited a new direction, and direction is visible through recurring decisions: how the team practices, how it responds after a loss and whether the same problems continue across events. The next matches will provide early evidence, not a complete verdict.

| Area | Before the change | Immediate position |
|---|---|---|
| Head coach | kuben moved to the bench | JTR appointed |
| Playing core | International lineup after summer changes | Banjo, Matheos, ztr, podi and jocab retained |
| Ranking | Mixed opening results | 55th in the global VRS |
| Next tests | Preparation under previous staff | NODWIN playoffs and ROG Journey Autumn |
FOKUS have made a complete coaching handover without changing the current five-player roster. JTR’s history with Nigma Galaxy, ODDIK and FlyQuest gives the organization a coach who has worked through different competitive demands and understands both primary and supporting staff roles.
The appointment now has to become a working structure around ztr and the players. With two competitions already on the calendar, the useful measure will be whether FOKUS develop clearer preparation, more stable responses and a direction that lasts beyond one event.
