Marco “Snappi” Pfeiffer has ended a playing career that lasted almost two decades and taken over as head coach of HEROIC. The organization announced the 36-year-old Dane as its new coach on October 1, replacing Joonas “doto” Forss, who was moved to the bench earlier the same day.
The appointment returns Snappi to an organization he represented as a player in two spells between 2016 and 2020. It also gives HEROIC a coach with extensive in-game leadership experience at a point when the current lineup is producing results and trying to secure its place among the leading international teams.
Snappi stepped down from Ninjas in Pyjamas at the end of August. At the time, a move away from active competition was already under consideration, but HEROIC’s announcement makes the transition official: he will now prepare players and matches from behind the team rather than serve as an in-game leader on the server.
HEROIC enter the change with a stable five-player roster of nilo, susp, Chr1zN, MartinezSa and Brollan. The team was ranked 17th when the move was announced and had already won two LAN events in 2026, Stake Ranked Episode 3 and Stake Pulse Beat II.
Why HEROIC chose an experienced in-game leader
Moving directly from playing to coaching is a major change in responsibility, but much of Snappi’s professional identity was built around leadership. An in-game leader must read opponents, communicate adjustments and keep a structure functional under pressure. Coaching adds longer preparation cycles, individual development and the need to influence matches without controlling each round directly.
For HEROIC, the timing is notable because doto leaves after a period that included two trophies. The organization is therefore changing the person responsible for the team’s direction without rebuilding the active lineup. Snappi inherits a functioning group, not a blank project, and the first measure of the move will be whether its existing strengths remain intact.
The confirmed shape of the transition is clear:

- Snappi becomes HEROIC’s head coach and ends his professional playing career.
- doto moves to the bench after serving as the team’s coach.
- nilo, susp, Chr1zN, MartinezSa and Brollan remain the active five.
- Stake Pulse Beat III will be Snappi’s first tournament behind the roster.
The reunion also carries organizational context. Snappi played for HEROIC for more than two years across his previous spells, so he returns with knowledge of the brand and its competitive history. That familiarity does not remove the learning curve of coaching, but it may shorten the process of building trust with management.
His recent time with Ninjas in Pyjamas provides another relevant perspective. Stepping away from that active roster in August left a short gap before the coaching announcement, rather than a long retirement outside top-level competition. His understanding of current practice routines, tournament schedules and tactical trends should therefore be recent.
The role change should not be judged as a direct continuation of Snappi’s results as a player. A coach is evaluated through preparation, development and the team’s collective response. HEROIC’s current form gives him a useful starting platform, while also creating pressure because the lineup has already shown that it can win events.
First test arrives in Stockholm
Snappi’s first appearance as HEROIC coach is scheduled for Stake Pulse Beat III, an $80,000 LAN in Stockholm from October 12-17. Astralis, MIBR and Envy are among the other confirmed participants, giving the new coach an immediate competitive setting in which to establish routines.
The short preparation window means sweeping tactical changes would be difficult to implement responsibly. A more realistic early priority is maintaining communication, clarifying responsibilities and adding targeted ideas without disturbing the framework that produced HEROIC’s recent titles.
Neither HEROIC nor doto announced a new destination for the outgoing coach. He remains on the bench, while Snappi’s appointment is permanent as announced. Any further staff change or claim about doto’s future would go beyond the information currently confirmed.

| Area | Confirmed position | Immediate significance |
|---|---|---|
| Head coach | Snappi appointed | First coaching role after a long playing career |
| Previous coach | doto benched | No next team announced |
| Active roster | Five players unchanged | Competitive core remains together |
| First event | Stake Pulse Beat III | Debut scheduled for October 12-17 |
| Recent form | Two 2026 LAN titles | New coach inherits a winning lineup |
HEROIC’s decision links a veteran leader with a young roster that has already demonstrated upward momentum. Snappi brings years of calling experience, familiarity with the organization and current top-level knowledge, but coaching will test a different set of skills than leading from inside the server.
Stockholm will provide the first evidence of how the partnership works. Until then, the essential facts are settled: Snappi has finished his playing career, doto has moved to the bench, and HEROIC will take the same five players into its next event under new leadership.
