G2 have confirmed that Álvaro “SunPayus” García has left the organization, ending a 14-month spell that included one trophy and three months on the bench. The announcement makes the Spanish AWPer a free agent, although G2 did not name his next destination.

The separation completes a change that began in June, when G2 replaced SunPayus with Artem “r1nkle” Moroz. A move to FUT has been reported but remains unconfirmed, so the only official development is that SunPayus is no longer contracted to G2.

SunPayus joined G2 in July 2025 as the long-term replacement for Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov. The new lineup produced an immediate high point by winning BLAST Open London 2025 after only a month together, but it could not turn that start into regular deep playoff runs.

G2 eventually chose a different AWP profile. Coach Eetu “sAw” Saha explained after the June change that the roster needed a more aggressive sniper because several of its players naturally occupied passive positions. That assessment framed the move as a question of team balance rather than a simple judgment on individual level.

G2 close the chapter that began after m0NESY

Replacing m0NESY created an unusually demanding role. SunPayus arrived with international experience and a controlled approach to the AWP, but G2 were rebuilding more than one position and needed the five players to divide initiative cleanly. The London title showed that the lineup could function at its best; the following months showed that the formula was difficult to reproduce.

By June 2026, G2 had decided that r1nkle’s greater willingness to seek early duels better suited the rest of the team. SunPayus moved to the bench and remained inactive for roughly three months. His formal departure now removes the final contractual link to that version of the roster.

The confirmed timeline separates fact from the still-unresolved transfer report:

An empty sniper player station faces a four-stage career timeline
  • SunPayus joined G2 in July 2025 after m0NESY transferred to Falcons.
  • G2 won BLAST Open London 2025 during his first months with the team.
  • r1nkle replaced him in the active lineup in June 2026.
  • G2 announced his departure on September 29 without confirming a new employer.

The decision leaves G2 with the five-player group of huNter-, NertZ, r1nkle, HeavyGod and MATYS under sAw. There is no immediate vacancy created by the announcement because the active AWP position had already changed hands in June. The practical effect is therefore contractual clarity rather than another competitive rebuild.

For SunPayus, leaving the bench creates a clearer route back to official matches. The 27-year-old offers more than primary AWPing: previous teams have also used his calm mid-round communication, and the reported FUT talks identify secondary calling as one reason the young lineup could value him.

That possible destination must still be treated carefully. HLTV reported on September 16 that FUT were close to signing him as a replacement for Nikita “cmtry” Samolotov, but neither the G2 departure statement nor the available FUT information amounts to a completed public announcement.

A reported FUT move would create a very different role

FUT’s projected lineup is considerably younger than the G2 team SunPayus has left. A veteran AWPer alongside dem0n, Krabeni, dziugss and xfl0ud could provide structure as well as firepower, especially if he shares calling responsibility. That is an interpretation of the reported fit, not confirmation that the transfer is complete.

The earlier report also named PGL Masters Bucharest, scheduled for October 24-31, as a possible first event. That timing would give a new roster several weeks to prepare, but it depends on FUT completing and announcing the agreement. Until then, SunPayus should be described as available rather than as a FUT player.

G2, meanwhile, can evaluate the r1nkle version of the team without an unresolved bench situation in the background. The departure is administratively simple, but it closes a significant attempt to replace one of Counter-Strike’s most influential AWPers with a proven, more methodical alternative.

SunPayus leaves G2 with one title from a 14-month tenure and no announced next team. The organization had already committed to a more aggressive AWP style, making the formal separation a logical conclusion to the June benching.

Attention now shifts to whether the reported FUT agreement becomes official. Until it does, the accurate position is straightforward: G2’s former AWPer is free to return, and one of the most experienced available snipers in Europe is back on the market.
